My Vision

As an aspiring Leader, I believe that everyone deserves an availability of a variety of sport and physical activity programs to supplement their motor development and their acquisition and maintenance of fundamental movement patterns. As stated by Malina (2012) “Children develop competence in a variety of basic or fundamental movement patterns. These are the foundation upon which other skills and sport-specific skills are built”. The movement patterns that children and youth learn stick with them for life. I believe that choosing to participate in various activities will have different effects to benefit motor skill development. For some youth, participation in school physical activity may simply not be enough.
I plan to help increase the availability of extra-curricular community programs aimed at teaching certain fundamental movements through a multi-sport approach for both youth and adults. As people improve proficiency of certain movements, they will learn to link these movements to other activities and challenges, improving their total physical literacy over time. Learning these skills at an earlier age allows for more time to develop proficiency; however, age-related changes may require maintenance of these skills (Voelcker-Rehage 2008). Today, we face many challenges and obstacles not only in sport and physical settings, but also in everyday life. Understanding the limitations and extents that our bodies are able to accomplish are one of many key concepts to achieving wellness.
